The RYA and the British Kitesports Association have once again teamed up in a bid to find young kite foil racing talents.
The Foiling Futures programme was initially launched in 2021, and this latest edition will help young sailors learn to kite foil and take part in their first kite foil races.
Kite foiling is the newest and fastest discipline to be added to the Olympic Games sailing events, with riders travelling at speeds of up to 35kts.
For those that show aptitude, the programme is a stepping stone to qualification for the British Youth Squad and international competitions.
Application requirements
- Basic kitesurfing skills (BKSA Level 2) – waterstart and riding back and forth across the wind. The BKSA has a network of 50 kitesurf schools around the UK that can help you learn these skills
- Ultimately you will need your own kites once you start the programme but initially there will be board/foils you can rent or bring your own

- How to ride a kite foil
- Introduction to core techniques – gybes, foot changes and tacks
- Key skills for completing a kite foil race – starts, mark rounds, rules and course
- Additional kite skills across foils, twintips and surfboards
