London and South East Regional Training Day

You may well be planning a refresher day for instructors or race coaches, getting everyone up-to-speed and prepared for a successful season. To help those plans, the RYA has organised Regional Training Days (RTD), supported by Gallagher Insurance, for anyone involved in the practical delivery of activities – your instructors, race coaches and volunteers responsible for getting people out on the water at your club.

A comprehensive programme of workshops will be offered across the small craft schemes – Power, Dinghy, Board sports – as well as Race Coaching. The theme for all participants will be ‘Creating a great participant experience’ and it will shape the whole day.

Ben Hodgson, Regional Development Officer for the Midlands, says the annual Training Days have been very successful at bringing people together: “These events have always been really enjoyable days, with people from across the regions sharing their skills and getting motivated for the season ahead.

“This year, with a theme relevant to everyone who delivers activity and bespoke topics on offer in each region, the RTDs should provide an excellent kick-start to the season, alongside your own pre-season training.”

As well as a primary full-group session that will be common to every region, there will be small group workshops tailored to your region and covering both personal and teaching skills, run by the same delivery team throughout.

Your team will also be able to meet RYA Chief Instructor Rachel Andrews or Liz McMaster and an RYA Coach Development Race Coach Tutor.

This year’s events are more wide-ranging than ever before, involving your Regional Development Officer, the Sailability and Coach Development teams and RYA Training too. They will provide participants with the opportunity to focus on developing their personal competencies and refine their instructing and coaching techniques.
