New grant for Hunter’s Yard marks exciting new chapter

The Norfolk Heritage Fleet Trust was awarded £154,426 over a period of two years, and will enable the Trust to continue their fantastic work in getting schools, youth and community groups in Norfolk the opportunity to get on the water, to experience the unique wetland environment of the Broads, and to learn about the heritage of the county of where they live, the Broads, the boats, the environment and wildlife.

This will build on the brilliant work carried out so far by the Trust, which, through grants from local charitable foundations, had enabled Hunter’s Yard to offer a day’s activities for primary school children. The children had the opportunity to be taken for a sail in the Trust’s historic half decker yachts, to explore the yard, and experience the environment. During the 2023 season, just over 400 children from 15 Norfolk primary schools were able to enjoy activities at Hunter’s Yard.

This new project will see the potential for developing the scheme further and has enabled the Trust to fund a Project Coordinator for two years.

Neville Khambatta, Chairman of the Trust, said “At the end of last year Hunter’s Yard was given a Christmas present when we heard that the application for funding for the post had been approved. We are now seeking applications for candidates who would like to be considered for this exciting new post, to work with our young people and develop the project. The Trust has other plans for Hunter’s Yard which we hope to be able to announce later this year”.
