Northern Ireland Blog December 2022

This news is for club committee members and club members – anyone who is interested in what work the RYA is doing in NI – please share.

A variety of yachts on moorings with topper dinghies in the background racing on a windy day.

Dear Boating Community,

The team and I send our warmest Christmas wishes, we hope you get lots of boat-goodies in your Christmas Stocking!

I am thrilled to inform you that Lisa and Andrew have had the safe arrival of a beautiful baby girl. The best Christmas present for them and us. We cannot wait to meet her and we send our congratulations to them.

Lisa’s Maternity cover is BYC native Kate Pounder, she has hit the ground running, hopefully your club will have already heard from her and if not, or you would like to drop her a line you can do this kate.pounder@rya.org.uk.

From Monday 19th we will have reduced capacity due to staff beginning their holidays and the office will be closed from 23rd afternoon through to 3rd January.

Coming up, we will shortly be releasing tickets for the RYANI Cruising Conference on 28th January, but there are lots of new events in the diary for you to catch up on, not least our open meetings for anyone interested in boating to join online and discuss our new strategy.

Don’t forget, you can now vote for the club of the year, this year we have two fantastic Northern Irish clubs on the shortlist. County Antrim YC & Ballyholme YC would appreciate your vote, you can find out more here.

There is so much coming up for you, your committees and your members coming up, so please read on and share the information with your community.

Thanks to everyone who joined us for the Affiliated Clubs Conference, we had a great day, with lots of interesting ideas from attendees’ clubs and guest speakers.

Lastly, many thanks to those of you who answered the RYA Clubs’ energy bills survey. RYA are starting to look at that data so that we can build a picture of the impact of rising costs on the club.

Guidance on the Energy Bill Relief Scheme:

UPDATE from NI Sport Forum 17/11/22:

Following engagement with the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS), the attached guidance has been drafted regarding the Energy Affordability Schemes in Northern Ireland for both domestic and non-domestic settings. My understanding is that the Department will look to share further information where aspects need clarified or reviewed.

The department recognises how fluid a situation this is and was prior to the Autumn Statement – they will be engaging further on communications across sectors. help for businesses and other non-domestic customers (Northern Ireland) has now been published:
