RDO East August Blog

Hi everyone,

RYA Club Membership Census

Huge thanks to all those clubs that have completed the annual Club Membership Census so far; the data we receive is really useful for a number of reasons and, perhaps most importantly, the information helps shape our work to support clubs. It also enables us to tailor content for workshops, webinars and conferences, and to provide information and advice that will help you with the challenges you tell us you are facing. It enables us to understand what is happening both across the region and the country. In turn, this helps us to promote the health of the network to our funders, and the funding we receive enables us to run initiatives like Discover Sailing, or provide guidance through our Funding Support Officers. If you have not yet completed the census, don’t worry there’s still time. If you don’t think your club has received its invitation, please do get in touch with me via Robbie.bell@rya.org.uk

Club visits/support

I have been pleased to visit several clubs recently and am looking forward to seeing more of you over the coming weeks. It’s been great to see so much activity taking place, from annual regattas to junior sail training activities, there’s clearly plenty going on. Please don’t forget to tag RYA East in your social media posts so that we can see what you’ve been up to and like and share your pictures. I’ve been really impressed by the sheer number of volunteers giving up their time to run high quality activity, it’s been an absolute privilege to chat to several people about their motivations and to see how much satisfaction they get from their involvement. If your club has been particularly successful with volunteer engagement, or conversely would like some support in this area, please do get in touch, I’m very happy to help.

The RYA Board is looking to recruit a new non-executive director at this year’s AGM in November. If you are interested, or know of anybody who would be interested in helping to continue to drive the RYA during this new strategy period, and has a high level of insight into grass roots dinghy sailing, performance pathways or experience of elite sports, please do share the following link, https://www.rya.org.uk/about-us/job-vacancies/committee-and-volunteer-vacancies/RYA%20Board?utm_source=newsletter&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=Member+News+-+28+July+2023

Save the date!

Finally, don’t forget that each year we hold an Affiliated Club Conference in the autumn, this year’s event will take place on the 25th November at the Royal Hospital School, Ipswich. This year, the event will be re-branded and, whilst still open to clubs, it will also be open to a wider audience, including class associations and Sailability groups. Additional information will be available in due course, but for now, please save the date!

Keep in touch

Don’t forget to tell us what you’ve been up to – you can use our media events form here, and you can also follow us on our Webpages, Twitter, Facebook and Instagram

Hope to see you soon!

Robbie
