Robbie’s Blog November 2023

Hi everyone,

Recent activities in the East Region

I hope that you are all well and have not been adversely affected by the recent monsoon conditions and high winds, fingers crossed we get a more settled period over the coming weeks. Last week I delivered a Dinghy Instructor course, this was one of two taking place at Grafham and I know there were a number of others taking place throughout the region, it’s great to see new enthusiastic instructors being qualified to support their clubs and training centres.

In terms of my focus, this month is all about our forthcoming events – hopefully you’ve heard about what we have going on by now, however if not, then please do keep reading.

RYA Connected

Taking place on 25 November is RYA Connected, formerly our Affiliated Clubs Conference. This new event will contain many of the benefits from previous years. There will be plenty of time built into the day for chatting with those from other organisations from across the region, you can also choose from a wide range of sessions to participate in, and of course there will be a significant number of RYA Staff on hand to support the day and help you with your questions. This year’s event will, however, present you with a wider selection of topics and we’re delivering a greater range of session types, these will include: forums, workshops, presentations and a panel discussions. In addition, we have opened up the event to a wider audience, as well as affiliated clubs we have also invited volunteers from Sailability groups, class associations and race officials, therefore you’ll have an even broader networking opportunity. We know some of the true value of these events is the ability for you to learn and share ideas and challenges. For more information, the full agenda and booking please visit our website here: https://www.rya.org.uk/events/connected

RYA East Cruising Conference

On 26 November our Cruising Conference will take place. We are delighted that a wide range of speakers and guest exhibitors are supporting this event. We are aiming to provide an opportunity for the cruising community to come together, participate in a range of interesting and informative sessions and enjoy refreshments and a great lunch, all in the magnificent surroundings of the Royal Hospital School. Please do share our landing page link with anyone you think might be interested. There is a charge for attendance, however we are offering a fantastic, discounted rate for RYA Members. Please find out more here: https://www.rya.org.uk/eventlisting/015est-cruising-conference

Connected Online Sessions

You may be aware that we are also running a range of online sessions throughout the autumn and winter as part of our Connected programme. There are sessions most weeks, they’re easy and free to attend, so please do check out the list and see if there is anything you are interested in learning more about. Simply visit our events listing page and filter by east region, or by event type: https://www.rya.org.uk/eventlisting?eventregiontypes=east
